Graz has a red-roofed old town under the Schlossberg and bold modern buildings by the river Mur, and this route of about 7 km covers both. It starts at the bonus stop, Eggenberg Palace on the western edge of the city, with peacocks in its park, and comes east to the Kunsthaus, the blue bubble the locals call the Friendly Alien, and the Murinsel, a shell-shaped platform floating in the river.

The Clock Tower on the Schlossberg is the city's emblem; its hands are reversed, with the big hand showing the hours. A lift inside the rock and a funicular both go up. The Hauptplatz and town hall, the Styrian Armoury with its thousands of historic weapons, the cathedral beside the emperor's mausoleum and the Stadtpark lead to the neo-baroque Opera. Trams link Eggenberg to the centre.
