This route circles Vienna's old town along and inside the Ringstrasse, then heads east to the Prater. You start at the neo-Gothic City Hall, pass the Parliament with its Athena fountain and enter the Hofburg through the domed gate on Michaelerplatz. The Graben with its baroque Plague Column leads to St Stephen's Cathedral and its tiled roof, and from there the route turns south to the State Opera on the Ring.

The next stops are Karlskirche across its pond, the long food stalls of the Naschmarkt and the Upper Belvedere above its gardens. The last stretch goes east to the wavy, colourful Hundertwasserhaus and ends at the bonus stop, the Giant Ferris Wheel at the entrance to the Prater. The trams on the Ring and the U-Bahn make any leg easy to skip, and the Naschmarkt is the best place for lunch along the way; it is closed on Sundays.
