Press and facts
In one sentence
RunCity is a free browser game that turns a city into a self-guided walking or running route: walk to each landmark, check in with your phone's GPS and race the clock on the city's leaderboard.
Key facts
- Cities: 122 European cities with 1,200 checkpoints, every one placed against OpenStreetMap. Each city has a public route page at runcity.today/c/.
- Price: free during launch. No payment details are asked for.
- Platform: runs in the browser on any phone and can be added to the home screen. No app store download.
- Languages: the app is in English, Hungarian and German; the website also in those three.
- Modes: Timed (a pausable clock, time on the leaderboard) and Casual (no clock).
- Fair play: check-ins are verified on the server: distance, GPS accuracy, device clock and travel speed. Photo check-ins are reviewed by a person.
- Privacy: location is read when the player taps Validate; route recording during a timed run is opt-in. No advertising or tracking cookies.
- Photos: freely licensed images from Wikimedia Commons, credited on every page.
- Made by: inkode, a small independent studio. Launched 2026.
How it works
- Pick a city and open its route.
- Walk or run to a checkpoint and tap Validate. RunCity takes one GPS reading and checks you are inside the checkpoint's radius; some checkpoints also ask for a photo.
- Collect them all, in any order, and see where your score or time puts you on the leaderboard. Share a card of your finish with your route drawn on it.
