Terms of Service
Please read these terms before playing RunCity. By creating a profile or otherwise using the game you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use RunCity. The most important one: you play on real streets, at your own risk, and you stay responsible for your own safety.
1. Who we are
These terms are an agreement between you and inkode ("we", "us"), the operator of RunCity at runcity.today and its apps ("RunCity" or the "service"). Contact: hello@inkode.co.
2. The service
RunCity is a location-based game. You visit checkpoints in a city, check in with your device's location and sometimes a photo, earn points and appear on leaderboards. Features, cities and checkpoints may change, be added or be withdrawn as the game develops. The service is provided as it is and as available; we do our best to keep it running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 16, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to create an account.
- Give accurate account details and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Do not share, sell or transfer accounts.
- Your display name and avatar are shown on public leaderboards. Do not use a name or picture that is offensive, impersonates someone else, or infringes anyone's rights. We may change or remove one that does.
- Tell us at hello@inkode.co if you think someone else is using your account.
4. Safety
RunCity is played outdoors, in traffic and among other people. When you play you agree to:
- obey traffic rules and local laws, and look at the road, not the screen, when you are moving;
- stay off private property and out of closed, restricted or dangerous areas, and respect opening hours, even if a checkpoint seems to need it;
- judge for yourself whether a route, the weather or your fitness make it safe to go on, and stop if not;
- never put yourself or anyone else at risk for a faster time or a higher score.
Checkpoints, maps and directions are for guidance only. Places change; a checkpoint may be under construction, closed or inaccessible on the day. If you find a checkpoint that is unsafe or no longer reachable, please tell us.
5. Fair play
Leaderboards only work if everyone plays honestly. You must not:
- fake or manipulate your location, including with location-spoofing apps, emulators or modified clients;
- tamper with your device clock or the timer, or move while a timed run is paused to gain time;
- use a vehicle where the game expects you to walk or run, unless the city's rules say otherwise;
- submit photos you did not take at the checkpoint at the time of the check-in;
- check in for someone else, or let someone else check in for you;
- attack, scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or get around its rate limits or security.
We check every check-in automatically and may review photos and flagged runs by hand. We may reject check-ins, remove runs from leaderboards, reset scores, and suspend or ban accounts that break these rules. You can ask us to review such a decision at hello@inkode.co.
6. City unlocks and payments
Some cities must be unlocked before you can play them. The price, if any, is shown in the app before you unlock. An unlock gives you a personal, non-transferable right to play that city's checkpoints for as long as we offer that city. It is not a purchase of the checkpoints, content or any other property.
Where paid unlocks are offered, the payment terms, including your statutory right of withdrawal as an EU consumer and how it applies to digital content you start using immediately, are shown before you pay. Promotional unlocks may be time-limited. We do not offer cash refunds for unlocks obtained for free.
7. Your photos and suggestions
You keep ownership of the photos you take and the spots and notes you suggest. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, process and review them to run the game, and, for saved spots you suggest, to use the location, name and note to create or improve checkpoints. We do not publish your check-in photos or use them in marketing without asking you first.
Only submit photos you have the right to submit. Do not photograph people in a way that invades their privacy, and do not upload anything illegal, offensive or unrelated to the checkpoint. We may delete photos that break these rules.
8. Our content
The RunCity name, logo, app, design and checkpoint descriptions belong to us or our licensors. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors; city and checkpoint photos are freely licensed images from Wikimedia Commons, credited in the app under their own licences. You may share result cards and links that the app creates for you.
9. Ending your account
You can stop playing at any time and ask us to delete your account at hello@inkode.co, as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and we may discontinue the service; if we do, we will give reasonable notice where we can.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory EU and Hungarian law.
Otherwise, to the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for injury, loss or damage that results from the way you choose to play, including from traffic, terrain, weather or the actions of third parties, from checkpoints being inaccessible, or from location or map inaccuracies. Our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or €50 if that is greater.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the game changes. We will update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email before they apply. If you keep playing after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, stop using RunCity and you may ask us to delete your account.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Hungarian law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there. Please contact us first; most problems are quicker to solve by email.
