Tirana is Albania's colourful, fast-changing capital, and this route covers its centre in about 4 km on flat streets. It starts at the bonus stop, the New Bazaar, a renovated market square of food stalls, and passes the small Ottoman Tanners' Bridge and the rebuilt walls of Tirana Castle, now full of restaurants. The Et'hem Bey Mosque, with frescoes on its porch, and the clock tower beside it stand on the edge of Skanderbeg Square.
The wide square, paved with stone from all over the country, holds the statue of the national hero on horseback and faces the big socialist-era mosaic on the National History Museum. Rinia Park and the Pyramid of Tirana, a former museum to the dictator now open to climb, lead to Blloku, the district once closed to all but party leaders and now the city's café and bar quarter. Bunk'Art 2, a museum in a Cold War bunker, is just off Skanderbeg Square.
