This route runs from the museum quarter through Munich's old town to the English Garden, about 6.5 km on flat streets. It starts at Königsplatz with its Greek-style gate and columned museums, enters the pedestrian zone at Karlsplatz through the old Karlstor and reaches the Frauenkirche, whose onion-domed towers are the city's landmark. Marienplatz and the Glockenspiel on the New Town Hall are the centre; the figures play at 11 and 12 most of the year.
The Viktualienmarkt, the Hofbräuhaus and the medieval Isartor follow, then the route turns north past the Residenz palace to the Feldherrnhalle on Odeonsplatz. The bonus stop is the Eisbachwelle, the standing wave at the edge of the English Garden where surfers ride the river all year, and the last stop is the Chinese Tower in the middle of the park's beer garden. The Viktualienmarkt is closed on Sundays.
