Nuremberg's walled old town is compact, and this route crosses it in about 3 km from the Königstor to the castle. It starts at the round gate tower of the Königstor and the Handwerkerhof, a courtyard of craft workshops just inside, and passes the Germanisches Nationalmuseum with its Way of Human Rights, a row of columns carved with the articles of the declaration. Saint Lorenz Church and its rose window lead to the Heilig-Geist-Spital, built out over the Pegnitz.

The Hauptmarkt holds the Beautiful Fountain and the Frauenkirche, whose clock has figures that parade at noon; in December it is the site of the Christkindlesmarkt. Saint Sebald Church and Albrecht Dürer's half-timbered house lead up to the Imperial Castle above the town. The bonus stop is the Henkersteg, a covered wooden bridge beside the old wine depot. Try Nürnberger Rostbratwürste, small grilled sausages served three in a roll.
