This route covers Copenhagen from the harbour to the old royal city, and it starts somewhere unusual: CopenHill, the bonus stop, a power plant on Amager with a ski slope and hiking trail on its roof. From there it crosses the harbour to the Little Mermaid on her rock, the four palaces of Amalienborg around their octagonal square, the green dome of the Marble Church and the coloured houses of Nyhavn.
Across the water in Christianshavn are the painted gate of Freetown Christiania and the Church of Our Saviour, whose spiral spire has steps on the outside. The route returns over the bridges to Christiansborg Palace on Slotsholmen, the Round Tower, Rosenborg Castle in the King's Garden, and ends at the main gate of Tivoli by the City Hall. Copenhagen is made for cycling, so a city bike is a quick way to link the far stops; Christiania asks visitors not to take photos on Pusher Street.
Coming from a cruise ship
Ships berth either at Langelinie, a few minutes' walk from the Little Mermaid, or at Oceankaj in Nordhavn, about 5 km out, linked by bus. From Langelinie you can walk the route straight through: the Little Mermaid, Amalienborg, the Marble Church, Nyhavn, Christianshavn and on to Tivoli by the central station. Skip the CopenHill bonus on a short call.
