Poznań's route runs from Lake Malta and Cathedral Island, where Poland began, through the Old Market to the imperial quarter, about 6 km. It starts at the bonus stop, Lake Malta, a long rowing lake with a running path around it, and crosses to Ostrów Tumski, where the brick cathedral holds the tombs of Poland's first rulers. The Old Market Square, with its Renaissance town hall, is the heart of the city: at noon two mechanical goats come out above the clock and butt heads twelve times.
The rebuilt Royal Castle on Przemysł Hill and the pink-and-white baroque Fara church lead to Stary Browar, an old brewery turned into an art and shopping centre. The route ends in the imperial quarter at the neo-Romanesque Imperial Castle, built for the last German emperor, and the Grand Theatre. Try a St Martin's croissant, a local pastry filled with white poppy seed.
