Málaga's route packs the old town, the Moorish fortresses and the port into about 4 km. It starts at the Atarazanas Market, entered through a marble Moorish gate, and follows Calle Larios to Plaza de la Constitución and the cathedral nicknamed La Manquita, the one-armed lady, for its missing second tower. The palm-lined Málaga Park runs beside the port to the walls of the Alcazaba.

Picasso was born on Plaza de la Merced, where his statue sits on a bench. The climb to Gibralfaro Castle is the hardest part of the walk, rewarded with a view over the bullring and the harbour, which come next. The bonus stop is La Malagueta beach, and the route ends along Muelle Uno at La Farola lighthouse. Take the climb to Gibralfaro early in the day; bus 35 also goes up.
