Turin's route runs from its great market through the baroque centre to the river Po and the hill across it, about 5.5 km, much of it under arcades. It starts at the bonus stop, Porta Palazzo, one of Europe's biggest open-air markets, and passes the Roman towers of Porta Palatina and the cathedral, home of the Shroud. Piazza Castello with Palazzo Madama, the Egyptian Museum and the twin churches of Piazza San Carlo make up the old royal centre.
The Mole Antonelliana, Turin's landmark spire, houses the national cinema museum and a glass lift to the top. The vast arcaded Piazza Vittorio Veneto runs down to the river and the columned Gran Madre di Dio on the far bank. The climb to Monte dei Cappuccini gives the classic view of the city with the Alps behind, and the route ends at Valentino Castle in the riverside park. Try a bicerin, coffee with chocolate and cream, in one of the old cafés.
