Sibiu is a Transylvanian Saxon town with an upper and a lower town, and this route of about 5.5 km follows its old walls before crossing the squares. It starts at the round Haller Bastion and follows the eastern wall past the Carpenters' and Archers' towers, then reaches the domed Orthodox cathedral, modelled on Hagia Sophia. The baroque Brukenthal Palace on the Large Square holds one of the oldest museums in the region.

The Council Tower stands between the Large and Little Squares, and the iron Bridge of Lies, said to creak when someone tells a lie on it, leads to the Gothic Lutheran Cathedral. The bonus stop is Sub Arini Park, a shady old park south of the centre. Look up at the roofs: the small eye-shaped dormer windows are why locals say the houses of Sibiu are watching you.
