Liverpool's route runs from the Mersey waterfront through the city centre to its two cathedrals, about 5.5 km. It starts at the Royal Albert Dock, a set of red-brick warehouses now full of museums and cafés, and passes the white, angular Museum of Liverpool to the Royal Liver Building, topped by the two Liver Birds. The domed Georgian Town Hall sits at the top of Castle Street, and the Cavern Club, where the Beatles played almost 300 times, is a rebuilt version on Mathew Street.

The Bluecoat, the city centre's oldest building, and the columned St George's Hall lead uphill to the round, crowned Metropolitan Cathedral. The bonus stop is the Chinese Arch, the largest outside China, and the route ends at Liverpool Cathedral, the largest in Britain; its tower is open to climb. Both cathedrals are joined by Hope Street, which is named for the hope that runs between them.
