Cambridge is small and flat, made for walking and cycling, and this route covers its colleges and the river in about 3.5 km. It starts at the bonus stop, Parker's Piece, the green where the first rules of association football were drawn up in the 1840s, and passes the neoclassical Fitzwilliam Museum, free to enter. The wooden Mathematical Bridge at Queens' College and the Corpus Clock, with its gold grasshopper eating time, lead to King's College Chapel.
The Market Square, Trinity Great Gate with its statue of Henry VIII holding a chair leg, and the round Norman church on Bridge Street follow, and the route ends at the river with the Bridge of Sighs at St John's and Clare Bridge, the oldest over the Cam. The Backs, the lawns behind the colleges, are best seen from a punt; many colleges charge entry and close during exams.
