Cologne's route runs from the Belgian Quarter through the old town to the Rhine and back along both banks, about 6.5 km on flat ground. It starts at the bonus stop, Brüsseler Platz, a square of bars and cafés, and passes the 4711 House on Glockengasse, where Eau de Cologne got its number, and the Heinzelmännchen Fountain with its busy gnomes. The cathedral's twin spires dominate the next stretch, followed by the Historic City Hall, the Alter Markt and Great St. Martin by the river.

The Hohenzollern Bridge, hung with thousands of love locks, crosses to the KölnTriangle viewing platform, the classic view of the cathedral over the Rhine. Back on the west bank, the route ends at the Chocolate Museum and the three Crane Houses in the Rheinauhafen. The cathedral is free to enter outside service times; climbing its tower costs a small fee.
