Verona's old town sits in a loop of the Adige, and this route covers it in about 4 km. It starts at the bonus stop, the viewpoint at Castel San Pietro, reached by steps or a short funicular, with the red roofs of the old town below. Down by the river, the Roman Ponte Pietra leads to the cathedral and the Gothic Scaliger Tombs behind their iron fence.

Piazza delle Erbe with its market stalls and the Lamberti Tower is the centre, and Juliet's House, with the famous balcony, is just off it; the courtyard gets crowded by mid-morning. The Roman Porta Borsari leads to the Arena on Piazza Bra, still used for opera every summer. The route ends at Castelvecchio, the brick castle on the river, and the Basilica of San Zeno with its rose window, a quieter walk west of the centre.
