Santiago de Compostela is the end of the Camino, and this route of about 5.5 km follows its old town of granite arcades to the cathedral and beyond. It starts in Alameda Park, with the classic view of the cathedral's west front, and reaches the Obradoiro façade, the pilgrims' goal, with the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, one of the oldest hotels in the world, on the same square. San Martiño Pinario's huge monastery front and Praza de Cervantes are a few lanes away.

The Mercado de Abastos is the place for Galician seafood and cheese; closed on Sundays. The Museo do Pobo Galego in an old convent and the Convent of San Francisco lead out of the old town to the bonus stop, the City of Culture, a set of stone-clad buildings rolling over Mount Gaiás east of the city. It rains often here, and the granite paving gets slippery.
