This walk of about 3 km links five of Amsterdam's best-known places: the Magere Brug, Rembrandtplein, the Flower Market, the Rijksmuseum and Museumplein. It stays outdoors all the way, from the Amstel to the Singel canal and on to the museum quarter.

The kid stop is the playground in the Rijksmuseum gardens, after three landmarks and just before the museum. The gardens are free and open to everyone. The walk ends on Museumplein, the wide lawn between the three great museums, a stone's throw from Vondelpark.

Tips for parents

  • The Rijksmuseum gardens are free and open to everyone, with or without a museum ticket. One guide describes fountains, sculptures, topiaries and children's play areas.
  • The Flower Market is the world's only floating flower market. Beside the tulips there are lilies, daffodils and many other flowers to look at.
  • A public toilet marked as free is mapped about 30 m from Rembrandtplein, and another about 60 m from the Flower Market.
  • Museumplein is a stone's throw from Vondelpark, which one guide says has several play areas.
